Do-It-Together

$7,500

For writers with a big vision and a book they’re ready to finish.

You don’t have to figure this out alone. We pair you with a coach who becomes your creative partner: someone who reads your pages, understands when you’re stuck, and helps you find your way forward. No self-guided courses, never generic feedback. Real conversation and critique with a writer who’s been there, on your schedule. Whether you’re still staring at a blank page or wrestling with the neverending middle, you’ll work from those first wobbly pages all the way to “THE END.”

What You'll Walk Away With:

  • A complete first draft: your story, told in your voice, from beginning to end

  • An ongoing coaching relationship tailored to how you work best

  • Sustainable writing habits and routines that fit your lifestyle

  • Craft instruction that emerges from your actual manuscript, not generic course material

  • Access to our complete community of writers, resources, and publishing expertise

  • Confidence in your ability to complete book-length projects

What's Included:

Creative Vision Deep Dive Session

Your writing coach will collaborate with you in this foundational 60-minute session to evaluate and develop your book concept, whether you’re starting with a rough idea, have already mapped out your content, or find yourself stuck in the middle of your manuscript. Together, we’ll identify the core elements of your story, spot potential development opportunities, and address any structural concerns or roadblocks that will guide our ongoing work together as you move forward.

Creative Process Evaluation &
Method Selection

Rather than forcing you into a one-size-fits-all approach, we determine whether you thrive with detailed planning or prefer discovery-driven writing. Your coach will assess your working style and provide a written report recommending the optimal balance of preparation versus exploration for your specific project, and will determine the next steps of your program.

Writing Strategy Session

This is where we figure out how you actually write. In this collaborative 60-minute session, your coach will help you discover your natural writing rhythm and design an approach that honors how your mind works. Some writers need detailed roadmaps before they begin; others discover their story as they write it. Most fall somewhere in between, and we’ll find your sweet spot.

Together, we’ll develop:

  • A writing approach that matches your creative process, not a one-size-fits-all method
  • Realistic milestones that account for your actual life circumstances
  • Strategies for the inevitable moments when writing feels impossible

This session creates the foundation for all our work together. Rather than forcing you into someone else’s system, we build a framework specifically for you. By the end, you’ll have a clear sense of how to move forward without the overwhelm that stops so many writers before they truly begin.

Weekly Coaching Allotment

Every week throughout your program, you’ll have one hour of dedicated time with your writing coach. Use it for live conversations when you need to talk through a thorny chapter, or request detailed written feedback when you’re ready to dig deeper into the work itself. Most writers discover a rhythm that serves them: maybe weekly sessions focused on live manuscript review, or biweekly check-ins with asynchronous editing in between.

Live coaching sessions:

  • Celebrate what’s working and explore what isn’t, without judgment
  • Receive craft guidance tailored to the specific challenges in your current pages
  • Navigate the real-life obstacles that make consistent writing feel impossible
  • Find your way back to the work when the honeymoon period wears thin

Asynchronous manuscript review:

  • Detailed responses to your pages that honor both your voice and your growth
  • Line-level suggestions that strengthen your prose without erasing what makes it yours
  • Guidance on larger structural questions before they derail your momentum

We’ve learned that every writer’s process is different—some need the accountability of regular check-ins, others thrive with deep, focused feedback on their pages. Some write in bursts, others in careful daily increments. Your coach will help you discover what actually gets words on the page.

Testimonials

“I absolutely love this company and especially my coach. She is so enthusiastic and insightful. I really feel like I have a champion in my corner. Plus it keeps me committed to my weekly writing goals to have to prepare every two weeks when we meet. Can’t recommend them highly enough.”
    —Chris H.

“I have had many writing teachers and coaches. I’ve been to dozens (but why does it feel like hundreds?) of writers’ conferences, seminars and classes. I’ve even taught screenwriting. When I was stuck in the middle of a novel rewrite, I was looking for someone to give me a flashlight and lead me out of the thick, dark, forest of overthinking. Dasha, one of Hewes House’s coaches, not only gave me the light, she pointed to the path under my feet. She has been the best investment in my project. She has a wealth of writing tools at her fingertips. She is insightful and able to lead me from slippery thoughts, into theme and into action. I’m already planning my next book knowing I have great coach who can pull from me my best work.”
    —Cecilia N.

“As a new author, Hewes House has been integral in keeping my hopes alive of publishing my stories. Their communication is timely and effective, they cultivate an encouraging yet professional atmosphere, and they prioritize the needs of their clients. I would recommend them for anyone looking for a writing coach.”
    —Chase G.

“Hewes House has taken my writing to a whole new level. Thanks to my amazing writing coach I’m planning on publishing in the near future.”
    —Ramie O.

“Finally, something I don’t need my writing coach for—this dang 5-star review for Hewes House! When I woke up to my mid-life crisis dream of finally writing that book, I knew I needed reinforcements. I came to HH with no expectations, but my coach Dasha has been brilliant. We’re still early in the process, yet Dasha has already provided me with the tools to stay organized and keep moving forward. Plus, I genuinely feel supported. I can’t recommend this talented team enough!”
    —Maureen F.

“Hewes House has re-invented the way I approach my writing. I’ve been trying to finish a fiction novel for years. Now, because of Hewes House, I’m convinced that I’ll get my book published and that it will exceed all my previous expectations.”
    —Rob B.

“I didn’t know what to expect from writing coaching, but my experience with Hewes House has exceeded my expectations. Dasha has a knack for sussing out exactly what my goals are for my piece of writing and helping me meet those goals. I feel like she’s really invested in helping me make my book as good as it can be: her reading and publishing recommendations show that she isn’t working with me in any generic sort of way. After just two sessions, she helped me convert an essay collection into a very detailed outline of an entire novel, down to a scene list for every chapter. For someone who is very disorganized, that alone was a game changer. Since working with Hewes House, I’ve gotten more done in a shorter period of time than any other period in my life.”

How Do-It-Together Works

Step 1
Founder Consultation Call

As your first step with Hewes House, you will have the opportunity to speak with our Founder, Josh Boardman, on a 15-minute phone call, during which you’ll dive into your goals, writing history, and work preferences. We’ll cover questions such as:

  • Have you ever written a book-length work before?
  • What is your relationship to writing?
  • What does success look like to you, with regards to your book?
  • What kind of person do you work best with?

We will use our Founder consultation call to determine which of our expert writing coaches will be the best fit for your project, as well as if we think our services can be a good fit for your process. Our system isn’t for everyone, and if we think that you would be better served elsewhere, we will happily refer you to a service or company who will better suit your needs.

Step 2
Writing Coach Consultations

Based on your consultation call responses, you’ll have consultations with two potential writing coaches to find your ideal match. You’ll want to share your creative preferences and communication style with each coach, as well as understand their background and approach to book development.

The right coach-author relationship is essential to your success—we help guide the interview process to ensure you find your ideal creative partner.

Step 3
Creative Vision Deep Dive Session

This is where your collaboration begins in earnest.

In this foundational 60-minute session, your writing coach becomes your creative partner. Your coach will dredge your book idea, helping you see everything more clearly: big picture themes, critical details, and connections you hadn’t yet seen. Whether you’re starting with a rough idea, have already mapped out content, or find yourself stuck in the middle of your manuscript, we’ll identify core elements and address any structural concerns that will guide our ongoing work together.

By the end, what felt overwhelming becomes the foundation for our collaborative first draft.

Step 4
Writing Strategy Session

Now that your coach understands your book concept and creative style, it’s time to map out your path forward. This collaborative session focuses on translating what we’ve learned about you and your project into a concrete plan for the months ahead.

Your coach will help you establish realistic writing goals, identify potential obstacles before they derail you, and create accountability structures that fit your schedule and personality. We’ll also determine how to best use your coaching time going forward: whether you’ll benefit more from regular check-ins, intensive manuscript feedback, or a combination approach.

By the end of this session, you’ll have a clear roadmap for your writing journey and feel confident about taking those crucial first steps toward your completed manuscript.

Step 5
Start Writing

—between (or even during!) meetings with your coach. These sessions help you figure out what’s actually working in your writing process versus what you thought would work. Your coach will help you adjust your schedule, tackle specific challenges you’re facing, and learn techniques that apply to whatever you’re currently writing.

You’ll discover your authentic writing rhythm through trial and refinement. Some sessions focus on craft issues, others on time management or motivation. Your coach responds to wherever you are in your process—whether you’re hitting your stride or need to overcome specific obstacles.

Over time, these regular check-ins become the backbone of steady progress on your manuscript.

Step 6
Watch Your Book Take Shape

Your pages are going to pile up and it’s going to feel great. Meanwhile, your coach is quietly tracking the threads that make your book unique—your voice, your themes, your structural choices—and you’ll begin to trust that you’re building something coherent and compelling.

You don’t have to read the feedback as you go (many writers prefer to wait), but knowing someone is witnessing your creative process removes the anxiety of “Is this even working?” You’ll write with confidence that our experience and guidance are shaping your book behind the scenes.

Step 7
Complete Your First Draft

After months of collaborative work, biweekly check-ins, and ongoing feedback, you’ll reach the moment every writer dreams of: completing your full manuscript. Your writing coach has guided you through every chapter, every challenge, and every breakthrough that brought you to this accomplishment.

Your writing coach celebrates this milestone with you and helps you transition from writer to reviser. You’ll receive your complete set of developmental notes covering the entire manuscript, a clear revision strategy based on what you’ve learned about your book during the writing process, and concrete next steps for turning your draft into a polished, publishable manuscript.

Most importantly, you’ll have proven to yourself that you can complete a book-length project—a confidence that transforms how you approach writing for the rest of your life.

Step 8
Receive Your Revision Roadmap

After celebrating your completed first draft, your writing coach will compile all their notes from your journey into a comprehensive, personalized revision guide.

Your coach knows your book intimately after months of collaboration, so this roadmap becomes your most valuable revision tool. Whether you dive into revisions immediately (while the story is fresh in your mind) or set your manuscript aside for a well-deserved break, you’ll have a clear, actionable plan waiting for you. This document ensures that when you’re ready to tackle your second draft, you’re not staring at a blank page wondering where to start—you have professional guidance pointing you exactly where to go.

Old school writing instructors used to say “the best time to begin your book is as soon as you finish it”—your story is alive in your mind, and momentum is a powerful force in revision. But whether you start immediately or take time to breathe, you’ll have everything you need to transform your first draft into the book you envisioned.

Step 9
Program Extension

(optional)

Different writers work at different paces, and that’s completely normal. Some manuscripts need more time to fully develop, and some life circumstances require a slower writing schedule. If you need additional months to complete your first draft, you can extend your coaching program for a monthly fee.

Extended months include the same support structure: biweekly coaching sessions, ongoing manuscript feedback, and your coach’s continued guidance as you work toward completion. The goal remains the same—finishing your manuscript—with the timeline adjusted to fit your reality.

Many of our most successful authors have used program extensions, and they often tell us that the extra time allowed them to create stronger, more thoughtful work. Your writing coach will work with you to determine the best path forward, whether that’s maintaining your current pace or adjusting expectations to better serve your book and your life.

Author Success Story

Raena Z. had been working on an essay collection for several years. She had drafts, notes, bits of scenes, but no cohesive structure to bring it all together. “I didn’t know what to expect from writing coaching, and I felt pretty disorganized going in,” she said.

In one of her early conversations with her coach, a shape started to emerge. By the second session, the path through her project felt clearer to her, almost obvious in hindsight. What she remembers most wasn’t the structure she sketched with her writing coach, but the elation she felt once she could finally see her project for what it was. As she put it, “That alone was a game changer.”

The whole thing looked a little lighter. A little more possible.

Clarity does that. When the work comes into focus, everything else follows more easily.

Is Do-It-Together Book Coaching Right for You?

This program works best for writers who:

  • Are ready to commit 6+ months to their book project and can maintain regular meetings with their coach
  • Want to write their own book with ongoing guidance (we’re not ghostwriters & you’ll be doing all the writing)
  • Thrive with accountability and collaboration rather than working in complete isolation
  • Can make consistent progress even when inspiration doesn’t strike: writing becomes a practice, not just a passion
  • Are willing to receive feedback and try new approaches when their current methods aren’t working
  • Have tried writing alone and found themselves stuck, inconsistent, or unable to maintain momentum
  • Want a creative partner throughout the entire process

This program might not be the best fit if:

  • You work best with minimal guidance and prefer to develop your book entirely on your own
  • You’re looking for a quick solution—meaningful manuscripts take time and sustained work
  • You only write when inspiration strikes and aren’t ready to establish a regular writing routine
  • You’re not open to feedback or collaboration on your work-in-progress

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Hewes House over other writing programs?

We’re obsessed with one thing: getting your specific book written. Not working through predetermined course modules, not freelancing piecemeal coaching sessions, not preparing you for an academic career. Your book, from the idea in your head to a completed first draft.

Everything we do serves that goal. Your coach becomes intimately familiar with your manuscript, your voice, and your creative process. You’re not rotating through different instructors or competing for attention in workshops. Your coach is with you every step of the way and guides you through the specific challenges your book presents. In return, we ask for a commitment from you to finish what you start. Other programs won’t ask that.

Our writers finish their books. Not someday, not when they feel ready, not after they’ve completed all the modules. They finish because when you’re obsessed with one thing, you get really good at making it happen.

How do I choose my writing coach?

After your founder consultation call, we’ll match you with two potential coaches based on your project, style, and personality. You’ll interview both coaches to find your ideal creative partner. We guide this process to ensure you find someone who truly understands your vision and working style.

What are the qualifications of your writing coaches?

Our writing coaches are active professionals in the writing and publishing world. Each coach has either taught at the best MFA programs in the country or is a widely published author in their own right. Hewes House brings real-world experience from the industry’s front lines.

Many of our coaches work as teachers, literary agents, publishers, or editors in addition to their coaching and writing work. This means they understand not just the creative process, but also what it takes to get a book into readers’ hands.

You can review detailed bios and publishing credentials for each of our coaches on our team page. When we match you with a coach during your consultation call, you’ll see exactly why we think they’re the perfect fit for your project.

What if I want to meet more than once per week? What if I have to skip a week?

Absolutely no problem. Your coaching time is flexible throughout the 6-month program, and your 1 hour per week allotment is a suggested pace based on our years of coaching experience. Some weeks you might need two intensive sessions when you hit a challenging section, other weeks you might need a break for vacation. If you finish your manuscript early, you can purchase a monthly extension at a 10% discount.

However, your allotted hours expire 6 weeks after your program’s estimated completion date. We’ve learned that open-ended timelines often become an excuse to avoid the challenging work of finishing. We make exceptions for genuine circumstances like medical emergencies or family crises, but the structure ensures you actually complete your book rather than letting it linger.

What if it's not a good fit and I want to switch coaches?

Though rare (our matching process is thorough), we can facilitate a coach change if needed. We’ll help you transition to a different coach while maintaining your progress and timeline. Your success matters more than any individual coaching relationship.

What technology/tools do I need for the program?

Just a computer, reliable internet for video calls via Zoom, and whatever word processor you prefer. We’ll share documents through email or Google Drive, whatever works best for you. No special software or technical expertise required.

Do you offer refunds?

We want you to feel confident in your investment, so we offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. This gives you enough time to experience the program, work with your coach, and determine if our approach is the right fit for your writing process.

If you decide within the first 30 days that the program isn’t working for you, we’ll provide a refund for the unused portion of your program, minus the time you’ve already invested with your coach and a $250 administrative fee that covers the coach matching process, program setup, and processing.

Your book won’t write itself, but you don’t have to write it alone.

Book your founder consultation call and join the writers who’ve turned their ideas into finished first drafts through our proven collaborative process.
